Nissan Navara PRO-4X Is Ready For Anything

Nissan Navara PRO-4X Is Ready For Anything

Nissan has long been one of the leading manufacturers of top quality bakkies and none more so than the new Nissan Navara PRO-4X. It’s one of the best looking, top performing bakkies in South Africa and a true competitor to other top-spec models, especially the Ford Ranger Wildtrak. Distinguished by its coil-sprung rear suspension and a significant makeover of its front-end and cabin architecture, the Nissan Navara PRO-4X is hard not to love.

What’s New On The Nissan Navara Pro-4X?

The new look of the PRO-4X is dominated by a big grille synonymous with large American market pickup trucks (bakkies) and reshaped bonnet which is becoming more popular on the mid-size double-cabs in South Africa.

There’s a black pack on the outside with red lettering in the logo and fender flares. The tyres are all-terrain 17-inches on black alloy wheels. The go-anywhere Nissan Navara PRO-4X has a nearly unbreakable chassis with hardcore components for a remarkable on and off-road experience. It also has a new steering wheel which is featured on other new Nissan vehicles in other segments which improves appearance and function.

Whether you use it for your daily commute, visiting a worksite, shopping, doing school runs or some weekend off-roading, the new Nissan Navara PRO-4X is capable and equipped to go anywhere and do almost anything.

The Navara gets the job done in style with Utili-track, Nissan’s innovative two-channel tie-down system. It has four infinitely adjustable heavy-duty aluminium cleats which means you can keep all your gear secure no matter where you go.

Electronic locking rear differentials, heavy-duty ruts and bumps make light work of steep inclines or declines. With the PRO-4X, you are in complete control as the long-travel off-road suspension soaks up rough terrain like a sponge resulting in a smooth, comfortable ride.

Nissan Navara PRO-4X Engine Specifications And Performance

Closely resembling the Nissan Navara 2.5 DDTi SE Plus, the PRO-4X is available with a seven-speed automatic gearbox in both 4×2 and 4×4 derivatives. The Nissan Navara PRO-4X is the perfect wingman for any journey with an impressive 2.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine developing 140 kW at 3600rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2000rpm.

The 2.5-litre engine is quite punchy off the line and offers respectable performance from traffic lights and intersections. It’s proven to be more refined and responsive while on the move with the broad range of torque a clear benefit. The Nissan Navara PRO-4X is hard to pass up as it’s supremely stylish, smart, safe, responsive and offers a selection of driving modes.

With a big 80-litre fuel tank and respectable fuel economy of around 7.9 litres per 100km, the Nissan Navara PRO-4X can go the distance without being too thirsty whether on the open road or in the city. It has a good ground clearance of 221mm with just over a ton payload and towing capacity of 750 (unbraked) and 3500 (braked).

With a refined engine and smoother gearbox, the Nissan Navara PRO-4X will give drivers more of a car-like experience. The steering, handling and overall ride are all good which makes this Navara one of the better choices for urban driving and handling some of the pothole-ridden roads across the country.

Styling And Interior

On the inside, the Nissan Navara PRO-4X benefits from recent upgrades including an 8.0-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, native navigation, digital radio and an updated instrument binnacle with more information and functionality.

The Nissan Navara PRO-4X has leather-accented seats as standard with unique interior trim, special orange-accented logos and stitching along with anodised black panels. The cabin is also quieter featuring a supportive, fatigue-reducing, front passenger seat and 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The rear seats have been recontoured with a new rear armrest, dual cup-holders and dual-zone climate control. All of these additions make every seat in the PRO-4X the best in the house. Other niceties you get as standard over the other Nissan Navara models include the following:

  • Black over fender
  • Black roof rails
  • Tow bar
  • Around-view monitor with moving object detection
  • Rear privacy glass
  • Navigation
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror

Safety And Comfort Features

In addition to the increase in kerbside and buyer appeal, the new look Nissan Navara PRO-4X integrates new safety technology like autonomous emergency braking. As you expect from a modern-day double cab bakkie, safety is at the forefront with plenty of standard features.

Among many others, this includes front driver and passenger airbags, side, curtain and driver knee airbags, ABS, EBD, HSA, HSC, blind-spot warning, lane departure warning, cruise control and reverse camera with sensors.

The LED headlights are standard and a great improvement for the Nissan Navara as they offer much-improved visibility. They provide a broader, wider beam of light over the previous model allowing you to see quite far into the distance using the high beams.

Although the makeover is mostly focused on styling and features, every upgrade has its place in making the Nissan Navara PRO-4X a well-balanced bakkie. It’s versatile, capable and loaded with advanced technology which makes it a certain favourite in this hotly contested segment.
